Balidea develops new features for the online event management platform of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research

Balidea is the Spanish company selected to develop new features for the online event management platform of UNITAR, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research.  UNITAR is a training arm of the United Nations, which provides capacity development and research activities related to all matters within its mandate, oriented towards individuals, organizations and governments.

Through the platform (www.unitar.org/event), users can look for information of and registger for training or other types of capacity development activities in the areas of multilateral diplomacy , international law, conflict prevention, environmental governance and waste management , climate change and adaptation, peacekeeping, local governance , public finance, trade and the use of Information Technology for humanitarian assistance and development among others can be accessed.

The project led by Balidea includes multiple enhancements to the platform, from its adaptation to the latest version of Drupal, the improvement of the buying process, the evolution towards a more intuitive and accessible navigation, the implementation of an improved user interface and adaptation to different mobile devices (mobiles, tablets, laptops, etc.).

Balidea has optimized the platform to improve its search engine position and its multilingual features.  Balidea has also prepared web design and editing technical manuals related to the platform. It is also intended to link this platform with the UNITAR learning management system based on Moodle.

With this project Balidea becomes one of the few Spanish companies that are currently providing ICT services to the United Nations entities.

Information easy to locate

The UNITAR online event management platform allows users to register and be informed of activities being carried out. In order to structure information and facilitate its location, the platform organizes events by different parameters such as date, subject area, registration type, training format or exclusive activities for diplomatic corps.

The platform features are configured to locate information faster and includes search forms that allow users to refine the results thanks to options such as event location (city and country), price range or programme area.

The platform also has a private area for event managers and for collecting and analysing statistical data.

It is active since 2010 and since the launch of its current version, in March 2016, there have been more than 17,000 users, 340 events and 3,500 event registrations.
